Kim Jones’ next big Nike trainer collaboration could be yours this week
Last year Nike and Dior teamed up on a limited-edition Air Jordan 1 High, which came with the Parisian house’s Oblique jacquard design on the Swoosh, as well as dual-logo branding. Inevitably the trainers sold out instantly and you’d be hard-pressed to find a pair of the sneakers for less than £30,000 on resale sites such as Farfetch today. The man behind that hugely successful collaboration was, of course, the artistic director of Dior Men’s, Kim Jones, who has been working with Nike since 2016.
Now, off the back of that aforementioned collaborative win in 2020, Jones is turning to another of Nike’s icons, the Air Max 95, in time for Nike’s annual Air Max Day on 26 March.

Designed by OG Nike employee Sergio Lozano, the original rippled sneaks were inspired by the eroding walls of the Grand Canyon, as well as elements of the human body, with the shoe’s signature layered panels reminiscent of muscle fibres and flesh. They also featured the first ever visible Air window in the forefoot, as well as one at the back, and came with little Swoosh branding when they released in 1995.
While the trainers have been the focus of multiple collaboration over the years, with the likes of Stüssy and Comme Des Garçons taking them for a spin, little has ever changed regarding their fundamental appearance or construction.

With that in mind, Jones’ take on the Air Max 95 is one of the most exciting to date. “This latest capsule celebrates one of my favourite Nike shoes by looking at the way it could be addressed with modern technology,” Jones explained.
The special-edition design bridges Nike’s eras with a toe cap mini-Swoosh and a perforated upper inspired by the newer Air Max 360, while the original Air Max 95 colours of Total Orange and Volt serve a hefty dose of nostalgia. What’s more, Jones has subtly included eyestays in a translucent, breathable, stretch-woven material called Nexkin, which is commonly used across the Zoom Fly SP and React Element 87 styles.

With both pairs of the trainers releasing globally this month, Jones has also designed a capsule collection of apparel in keeping with the the bold Volt-hued shoes, which will be sold exclusively within the UK. Furthermore, garments to match the Total Orange will get a worldwide release. Jones said that the apparel collections “carry an over-scaling of the logo to create something that is as energetic as the shoe itself”.
