Bespoke Watch Co. Series A With “Bez-Loc” Interchangeable Bezel

Bespoke Watch Co. is an American watch brand based in Ohio with the mission to provide a high-quality and well-designed mechanical watch that provides true variety through customization. The debut model is the Series A, a watch with a boldly designed case and dial that offers variety, while retaining its identity and aesthetics by offering interchangeable bezels and straps. Obvious to even casual observers, most great watch collections come in color varieties, and many collectors seek out different versions of the same models. Bespoke Watch Co. founder Walter Neighbors created the Series A with the intention of being what’s essentially a customizable collection, all in one watch.

The Bespoke Series A is the first collection from the brand and is characterized by the Bez-Lock system for interchangeable bezels, as well as the easy strap-switch system. The full set of the Bespoke Series A comes with six straps and seven bezels. The sporty and angular shape of the case and lugs are intentionally complemented with the dial that’s characterized by its minimalism and those distinct hands.

The unique Bez-Lock system (patent pending) is easy to operate, with the pusher at 10 o’clock controlling the function. With a simple push and turn of the bezel, you can remove and add a bezel to the watch. The process is elegant in its simplicity and allows for a no-headache switch. It’s natural to think that the wear-and-tear caused by removing and installing bezels might cause an issue, but Bespoke Watch Co. absolutely stands behind the build quality — a two-year warranty is standard, and there is an option for an extended five-year warranty.

Changing the straps is as simple as a push of the pin on each strap and easily popping it out. The full set comes with seven bezels in the following colors: Dutch orange, Laguna blue, Daytona blue, Chicago red, Silverstone gray, black, and crystal. The six straps come in Dutch orange, Laguna blue, Daytona blue, Chicago red, Dakar tan, and black.

The case is done in 316L stainless steel, measuring 42mm-wide with a lug-to-lug measurement of 54.6mm. The curved shape of the 11.2mm-thick case allows the watch to sit comfortably on the wrist. With a relatively slim case profile, the Series A can slip under a sleeve with ease.

The simple, time-only dial is characterized by a clean design that leaves out a seconds hand (note that it is a mechanical watch, even with the absence of the seconds hand) or extras like date window. The distinctly styled hour and minute hands are almost retro-futurist, especially when you see them on the silver dial of the Series A. You’ll notice the hour markers are done in applied steel indices with the exception of the 8 o’clock indicator done in its Arabic numeral.

Why is the “8” done this way? Well, the number is a theme throughout with the octagonal-shaped bezel, eight hour-marker indices on the dial, and of course this hour marker. Both the hands and the indices are done in Super-LumiNova BGW9, which emits a blue/green glow in the dark.

The Bespoke Series A watch uses a Swiss Sellita SW200-1 movement, which has a reputation for reliability and is widely used in watches made by Baume & Mercier, Sinn, Eterna, and countless other brands. The SW200-1 operates at 28,800 vph with a 38-hour power reserve and features 26 jewels and a Nivaflex barrel spring. Nivaflex is an alloy used for mainsprings that is particularly antimagnetic and durable. The automatic movement is visible through the scratch-resistant sapphire exhibition caseback.

The Bespoke Watch Co. Series A is best experienced as the full set, which includes all seven bezels and six straps, the presentation box, and a Bespoke travel case for your straps and bezels. This is priced at $1,850 with two-year warranty included (an additional $100 gets the extended five-year warranty) and is limited to 88-pieces, which will be numbered. There is a smaller option that includes the presentation box and travel case, the black bezel and strap, plus a choice of three bezels and three straps. This is priced at $1,325 (two-year warranty, option to extend). Finally, there is the option to buy only the watch with black bezel & strap (two-year warranty, option to extend) for $890. Note that you can buy corresponding bezel & strap sets for $190-$210 per set of two.

Bespoke Watch Co. will be periodically adding new bezel shapes and materials (currently bronze and color-less stainless steel are in the works), as well as new strap styles and materials to the collection. Additionally, there are personalized options coming in the near future. You can learn more at bespokewatchco.com.

WATCHES OF THE YEAR: The best Ladies’ Watches of 2020 as revealed by WatchPro

]

GONE ARE THE DAYS WHEN LADIES’ WATCHES WERE SIMPLY SMALLER OR GEM-DECORATED VERSIONS OF MEN’S PIECES. HERE WE HIGHLIGHT HOROLOGICAL MASTERPIECES WITH DECADES OF HISTORY ALONGSIDE HIGH FASHION MODELS FOR GIRLS WHO JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN.

WATCHES OF THE YEAR WINNER:

CARTIER

PASHA COLLECTION

From $5,700 to $16,600

Although they live in the shadow of Cartier’s most recognised Tank and Panthere lines, Pasha watches date back to 1985 and the current collection brings the past and present together in a perfect package. There was a full family of 24 SKUs unveiled back in the spring, with gender-neutral 41mm models alongside 35mm pieces aimed at Cartier’s core female customer.

Like most recent Cartier collections, the Pasha watches have quick-release interchangeable straps and bracelets, making them versatile for customers and increasing repeat business potential for retailers.

Pasha de Cartier has two key design signatures: circular cases framing dials with a square shape at their centre; and a crown guard set with a blue sapphire that unscrews to reveal the smaller crown beneath. There are versions in steel, yellow gold, pink gold and set with diamonds, coming in two sizes: 41mm and 35mm and all using Cartier’s manufacture calibre 1847 MC automatic movement. The line tops out with a 41mm, hand-wound skeletonised model in white gold and diamonds for $168,000.

LADIES’ WATCHES OF THE YEAR

NOVE TRIDENT

FROM $450

NOVE is a fledgling watch brand we took a shine to this year that produces Swiss made watches with particularly distinctive dials. Its Trident line is inspired by the King of the Sea, according to the brand, and features a unique three lever stopper system working together as a unidirectional bezel.

Measuring just 6.8mm thick and boasting 200 metres of water resistance, the Trident is a marriage of design and engineering.

Swiss-Made watch designs with the NOVE seal of quality is a mark of accuracy and reliability. The Trident feels smooth and comfortable to wear thanks to a high-quality bracelet and well-crafted butterfly clasp. NOVE considers the Trident to be the ultimate divers’ instrument for men and women, which is a bold statement of intent from a brand to watch.

STORM LONDON ION

$198.99

Never shy of a bold design, STORM’s Ion in gold and red certainly catches the eye. Featuring a distinctive hour hand made of the letters of ‘STORM’, the striking red dial sits on a gold strap. Fuelled by a Japanese quartz movement, the Ion in gold and red comes with a 35mm brushed Stainless Steel case and mineral glass lens.

The whole watch is water resistant up to 50 metres, which is plenty enough to allow for a spot of swimming or fishing, but perhaps not high impact extreme water sports. STORM has always stood out from the crowd like a street style social media influencer with cutting design aesthetics, and this year has proved no different.

VACHERON CONSTANTIN ÉGÉRIE

$21,200 to $33,400

One of the most respected watch brands in the industry, Vacheron Constantin launched a new family of ladies’ watches in 2020, much to the excitement of enthusiasts around the world. The new collection. Called Égérie, it is a line that the brand describes as a fusion between haute horlogerie and haute couture.

Égérie is a full spectrum family of watches, with 35mm and 37mm models made in pink gold, white gold or steel cases; with or without diamond setting. Each watch has a design and complication feature drawing the eye to around 2 o’clock on the dial.

Vacheron has come up with its own interchangeable strap system so one watch can be worn in many ways, and the Égérie is no different. There is the option of a 30mm quartz piece, but aficionados will plump for models using the manufacture 1088 self-winding movement with a 22ct gold oscillating weight or the 1088 L for models with a moonphase complication.

GUCCI GRIP CHRONOGRAPH

$1,760

There are very few in the watch community that didn’t have an opinion on Gucci’s Grip when it was launched in 2019. Some saw it as Gucci at its edgy best, while others saw it as looking too much like their bathroom scales. For every sceptic there have been plenty of converts. This year Gucci gave us a new take on the iconic Grip design with the introduction of a chronograph version where the time-telling windows are shifted from 12 to 3 o’clock, which makes it more intuitive to read, and a central chronograph hand is added.

It comes with a steel bangle featuring cut-out G details. Gucci says that it took design inspiration for the Grip from the world of skateboarding, which is why the line’s name recalls the way the rider’s sneakers stick to the grip tape on a skateboard. The dial is presented in a distinctive red and green combination.
