Nora Attal lights up Dior fall 2021 runway
DUBAI: Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri on Tuesday presented the Dior fall 2021 ready-to-wear show via a fashion film at an empty Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles, near Paris.
The offering featured 64 looks modeled by a diverse cast of catwalkers, which included regional face Moroccan-British model Nora Attal.
The 21-year-old stomped down the runway wearing two looks. For her first turn down the catwalk, she stunned in a tweed button-up blazer worn over a white collared blouse and paired with a matching flowy skirt and black boots.
She later switched into a navy-blue pleated dress with a white collar and a thin black belt secured around the waist. The look was elevated with white, lace-up boots and a dark headband.
Attal, who made her runway debut in 2017, is a catwalk fixture at the house of Dior. She has walked in plenty of shows for the Parisian maison, including the spring 2019 couture, spring 2018 ready-to-wear, and fall 2018 couture shows.
Titled “Disturbing Beauty,” the video paid sartorial homage to popular fairytales such as “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Snow White.”
For the fashion film, Chiuri commissioned artist Silvia Giambrone to create an installation of rows of thorn-adorned mirror-like sculptures titled “La Galerie des Ombres” to line the palace’s halls.
The Italian designer’s new collection was punctuated by puffers quilted in the house’s print, sharply tailored coats, crisp shirting, pleated full skirts, and evening gowns printed with roses and apple motifs that were adapted from those created for Dior by Andree Brossin de Mere in the 1950s.
The video, which was streamed online, was watched by Dior front row fixtures and house ambassadors – including Dubai-based Lebanese influencer Karen Wazen – who all shared photographs of themselves sporting looks from the new collection.
Wazen uploaded a snap of herself sitting on wooden stairs with her cat Leo perched on her lap. She opted for a yellow, long-sleeved evening gown that was printed with floral motifs throughout. She accessorized the dress with a brown leather Christian Dior handbag.
In a caption for the image, she said: “Got to watch the stunning Dior show from home in this stunning Dior dress.”
She added: “Congratulations Maria Grazia Chiuri on yet another beautiful collection and work of art.”
Pop Smoke Receives Multiple New RIAA Certifications for Songs From ‘Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon’
After more than a year since his passing, Pop Smoke continues to be one of music’s more popular artists.
Last week, five Pop Smoke singles—“Dior,” “The Woo,” “What You Know Bout Love,” “For The Night,” “Hello,” and “Something Special”—receive new RIAA certifications.
“Hello” and “Something Special” are the latest records from Smoke’s posthumous debut album, Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon, to receive a platinum plaque. These hit records add to smashes “What You Know Bout Love” and “The Woo” featuring Roddy Ricch and 50 Cent which are now double platinum-selling singles.
The success of these records set the stage for the album’s standout tracks to receive their new certifications. The Lil Baby and DaBaby assisted, “For The Night,” is now four-times platinum while one of Pop Smoke’s breakthrough mainstream hits, “Dior,” is now three-times platinum.
Along with new plagues, “Dior” was also up for Grammy consideration. Unfortunately for Smoke’s team, “Dior” lost the Best Rap Performance award to Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé’s “Savage.” This in addition to having Pop Smoke’s album as a whole ignored was too much for the rapper’s label head, Steven Victor.
“Lol I would just like to know, how such a fraudulent institution is allowed to dictate the highest accolade in music,” Victor tweeted before referring to the awards as the “SCAMMYS.”
Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and Yara Shahidi Team for Dior Stands With Women
Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and Yara Shahidi Team for Dior Stands With Women
The fashion brand continues its inspirational women-led program for a second outing, this one featuring longtime muses alongside an architect, figure skater and well-known journalist.
Last fall, Dior debuted a new initiative, Dior Stands With Women, that featured a long list of famous faces doing just that — standing up and speaking out to showcase the impact women can have on the world as a way to inspire others. It only makes sense that the house would return with a second installment, dropped today to coincide with International Women’s Day.
The latest offering — searchable via hashtags #DiorStandsWithWomen and #DiorChinUp — features a series of portraits and videos with Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Yara Shahidi, actress and singer Li Bingbing, model Dilone, figure skater Kim Yuna, architect and designer and India Mahdavi and journalist and novelist Leïla Slimani. “There isn’t one grand identity of what it means to be a woman,” Shahidi says in a clip. “But it takes shape differently for each and every individual.”
Also as part of the latest installment, Dior continues its support of longtime muse Theron’s foundation. In doing so, Dior will finance the university studies of young people selected for Charlize Theron’s Africa Outreach Project Youth Leaders Scholarship Program in partnership with UCLA Center for World Health and StudyTrust. The program’s goal is to provide higher education support for future leaders. Full scholarships will cover four years of full tuition, accommodations, food, books, computers, travel expenses, one-on-one tutoring and a leadership training course.
Theron interviews two of the students in one of the clips released today, which is seen below.
