Meet the Guccis as portrayed by Lady Gaga and Adam Driver.

Lady Gaga may perhaps be gunning for another Oscar-nominated role. The multi-talented artist is set to star alongside Adam Driver in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci. The film will be based on The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, a book by Sara Gay Forden that details the events and aftermath of the murder of the former head of Gucci, Maurizio Gucci (to be portrayed by Driver) by ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani (Gaga). Fashion and true crime? We’re all in.

Teen Vogue’s incoming editor-in-chief anti-Asian tweets resurfaced.

At a period where growing anti-Asian sentiments in the US has led to multiple assault crimes, the resurfacing of Teen Vogue’s incoming editor-in-chief Alexi McCammond’s past tweets proved to be troubling. 20 of the magazine’s staff members put forth a note condemning McCammond’s now-deleted tweets, as well as submitted a letter to publisher Condé Nast leaders to express their concerns. McCammond had already apologised for the tweets back in 2019, and once again reiterated her remorse for her unquestionably unacceptable actions.

Hermès is exploring alternative leather sources.

There’s no question that Hermès is one of luxury fashion’s foremost masters of leather. The house has now partnered up with California-based start-up MycoWorks to create Sylvania — a mushroom-based material that imitates the properties of leather. Hermès is set to make use of Sylvania (together with canvas and some elements of calfskin) in its Victoria bag that will be released later this year. And while this is a milestone for Hermès, it’s been reported that the more eco-friendly material will be part of the house’s offerings and not as a replacement for its leather.

Surplus leathers are being used to create new bags at Loewe.

Loewe has announced a project it’s calling ‘The surplus project’. Unused leather pieces have been cut into strips and woven together to create a series of small basket bags and crab-shaped bag charms. The surplus leathers used comprise of Loewe’s smooth calfskin as well as soft-grained calfskin that when woven together, form a mosaic of colours and textures. ‘The surplus project’ is an extension of Loewe’s commitment to more sustainable efforts as exemplified in its recent Eye/Loewe/Nature collection that made use of recycled, upcycled and organic materials.
