Tina Knowles Defends Daughter Beyoncé Amid $30M Tiffany ‘Blood Diamond’ Controversy

Tina Knowles is defending her daughter Beyoncé against “activists” and the backlash surrounding her Tiffany campaign.

Trolls hit the comment section after the luxury brand shared their “About Love” campaign starring the “Crazy In Love” singer, 39, and her husband Jay-Z, calling Queen Bey out for wearing the famed 128.54 carat Tiffany Diamond, which is from a colonial mine in Kimberley, South Africa.

The diamond, which has only ever been worn by four people, is defined as a blood diamond, which means it was mined and sold to fund military action against a government.

“It’s the fact that Beyoncé did a whole album and went mama Africa then went to wear a blood diamond,” Twitter user @Ewmide pointed out on Twitter. “I love Beyoncé but it’s very contradictory.”

But as @Des_Ti_M pointed out, “Lady Gaga wore that diamond necklace and it was all love but as soon as it’s on Beyoncé’s neck y’all suddenly remember where it’s from and how it’s a blood diamond.”

“How many of you socially conscious activists own diamonds? I thought so,” Knowles responded to the backlash. “Well, guess what? Did you go to try to check to see where the diamond came from? Probably not.”

She continued, “So when you guys get engaged you won’t have a diamond you gonna put on a sterling silver band. And you better check out where it came from and the origin of where came from and why you add it check out the calls for the Leather that you weird because they made it came from another country to ban and not buy diamonds right because [you’re] righteous!!”

Lady Gaga wore the diamond to the Oscars in 2019. It was first worn by Audrey Hepburn.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Look Loved-Up In Stunning Tiffany & Co. Ad Campaign

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the faces of Tiffany & Co.’s latest campaign.

The stars, who met when Bey was just 18, are the picture-perfect couple in a series of stunning snaps for the “About Love” fall 2021 ad shared by the jewellery company.

Bey models the iconic Tiffany Yellow Diamond around her neck for the shoot, with People writing how she’s only the fourth person ever to wear it.

Lady Gaga was among those who donned the fashion piece, wearing it at the 2019 Oscars.

“Love is the diamond that the jewellery and art decorate,” the pair gushed in a statement. This is the first time they’ve appeared in a campaign together.

Beyoncé looks stunning in the snaps, donning a black Givenchy dress, with other notable jewels in the shoot, including a 22-carat yellow diamond ring, a 15.02-carat emerald-cut diamond ring sourced from Botswana and an 18-carat yellow and rose gold bracelet.

“Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the epitome of the modern love story,” Alexandre Arnault, EVP of product and communications, said in a statement. “As a brand that has always stood for love, strength and self-expression, we could not think of a more iconic couple that better represents Tiffany’s values. We are honoured to have the Carters as a part of the Tiffany family.”

Tiffany & Co. is “pledging a $2-million commitment towards scholarship and internship programs for historically Black colleges and universities” as part of its partnership with the Carters, People added.

London GCT: Canadian Olympian overthrows British dominance to head 2* grand prix

]

The Brits had dominated every 2* class at the London Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) until the final showdown, when Canadian Olympian Tiffany Foster blitzed to victory on her experienced 5* partner Brighton.

Tiffany’s win in the Piaff 1.45m 2* grand prix capped the end of a European tour that began in June and has seen her and four pupils take in dates including Knokke, Chantilly and Valkenswaard.

“The format is a little different [on the LGCT] now and if I was jumping the 5* I’d have to be part of the league or in the top 20 and I am not. I opted for the 2* as I brought along some of my students — three girls from Canada and Isabele Coxe from the US,” said Tiffany, who last jumped the London LGCT in 2017, when she contested the 5* line-up.

“We have been on a European tour and we know showing in England is so fun,” she added. “So I figured I’d bring Brighty along for the ride and I also brought a new eight-year-old, brought for Isabele Coxe’s family, who I also jumped some classes with.”

Fifteen combinations had made the jump off of this 1.45m grand prix, with Adam Botham, winner of the previous class with Ebanking, taking an early lead from first draw with Harvey.

Dutch rider Skye Morssinkhof then set what looked like an unbeatable target when she pulled off an improbable turn round the wing of a blue vertical to fly more than 2sec into the lead.

But jumping in the last third of the class, Tiffany was able to make the most of 15-year-old Brighton’s experience and incredible ability to keep pace through the turns to find another 1.17sec.

“I decided not to watch as I know him really well, he’s super, super fast,” Tiffany said. “I knew my plan and my horse and just decided to go with it.

“He spends no time in the air and is just really competitive. He was well within his scope — we’re slightly over-qualified! — but I also knew it wasn’t going to be for free.”

Tiffany now has a show in Canada, followed by another date in Europe before returning home to contest the whole Spruce Meadows tour.

Following Skye’s runner-up spot were three Brits — Flo Norris and Nequila, Olli Fletcher and Hello William and Adam with Harvey, while Sian Edwards collected fifth with Elessar.
