NRPS Investigating Thefts at Seaway Mall in Welland and the Pen Center in St. Catharines

On August 9, 2021, at approximately 6:00pm, officers attended the Seaway Mall, located at 800 Niagara Street, in the City of Welland in regards to a theft call.

Investigation revealed an unknown male had entered the Tianna Jewellery Store and asked an employee for assistance as he was shopping for chain necklaces. As the employee pulled out a pallet of chains, the unknown male grabbed the pallet and ran out of the store. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

At approximately 6:50pm, officers attended the Pen Center, located at 221 Glendale Avenue, in the City of St. Catharines in regards to a theft.

Investigation revealed the same male had entered the Charm Diamond Centre, and asked to observe necklaces. As a result, the male grabbed necklaces and ran out of the store.

The suspect is described as being:

Black hair

Medium build

Clothing description:

Black t-shirt with a yellow circle and white markings in the middle

Medical mask on face

Suspect Vehicle:

Grey Chevy Sedan

Tinted license plate

Thief grabs jewellery and runs from stores, Niagara police investigate

Police are investigating two thefts that happened at jewellery stores in Niagara Region on Monday.

The first incident happened around 6 p.m. at Seawell Mall on Niagara St. in Welland.

Police say a man entered the Tianna Jewellery store and asked an employee for help finding a chain necklace.

“As the employee pulled out a pallet of chains, the unknown male grabbed the pallet and ran out of the store,” said police in a news release.

Less than an hour later, officers were called to the Pen Center on Glendale Ave. in St. Catharines for reports of a theft.

Police learned a man had walked into the Charm Diamond Centre and asked to see some necklaces. The thief then grabbed the necklaces and ran out of the store.

Police describe the suspect as being six-feet, with black hair and a medium build. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a yellow circle and white markings in the middle, and a medical mask.

The suspect vehicle was a grey Chevy sedan with a tinted license plate.

Suspect in Welland and St. Catharines jewelry store thefts sought by police

Police are looking for a man who within an hour stole gold necklaces from jewelry stores in Welland and St. Catharines Monday night.

At about 6 p.m., Niagara Regional Police were called to Welland’s Seaway Mall.

A man had entered Tianna’s Jewellers and asked an employee for assistance as he was shopping for chain necklaces. As the employee pulled out a pallet of chains, he grabbed the pallet and ran out of the store.

About 50 minutes later, officers responded to The Pen Centre in St. Catharines for a similar theft.

Police determined the same man had entered Charm Diamond Centres and asked to see some necklaces. He grabbed necklaces and ran out of the store.

The suspect is described as Black with black hair and a medium build. He was wearing a black T-shirt with a yellow circle and white markings in the middle and a medical mask on his face.

He fled in a grey Chevrolet sedan with a “tinted licence plate,” police said.

Const. Jesse Vujasic said the value of the stolen jewelry from both incidents is more than $1,000.
