Turns Out, Tom Daley Has A Whole Instagram Dedicated To Knitting
We didn’t think it was possible to love Olympic diver Tom Daley more. After sweeping gold in the synchronised diving last week, the British native shared a message of solidarity for his fellow LGBTIQ athletes. “I hope that any young LGBTIQ person out there can see that no matter how alone you think you are, you are not alone. And that you can achieve anything,” he said.
Then at the weekend, the 27-year-old was spotted knitting a purple dog jumper in the stands as he cheered on the female divers. A day later Daley was seen creating a ‘Team GBR’ jumper. But it turns out that the craft is not just a hobby for the athlete. He has an entire, carefully curated, Instagram page dedicated to his knitting. Amongst the colourful sweaters, children’s clothing and diving briefs (yes, really, feast your eyes here), Daley recreated a Gucci crochet dress using “leftover yarn”.
The wool halterneck mini dress is from the Gucci Pre Fall 2020 collection and retails for $2,700 USD on Net-A-Porter. While we don’t normally condone knock-off designs we’re going to call this ‘artful appropriation’. But really, Daley, are you taking orders?
According to the diver, he began knitting during lockdown to help him relax. “I started knitting at the beginning of lockdown and have been obsessed ever since,” he wrote on Instagram. “I have started to crochet now also!”
Perhaps Sydney-siders should take leaf from his book. Daley even knitted himself a gold medal sleeve.
Recent months have seen a resurgence in crochet pieces. If you need any convincing, Bella Hadid has single-handedly brought back the crochet bucket hat while Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff was creating and selling quirky crochet bikinis and pants long before she made her debut on Miu Miu runway.
Daley is set to compete in the Men’s 10m platform category later this week.
9 brands Bollywood celebrities are spending their coins on, from Gucci to Balenciaga
Bollywood celebrities have been the prime source of inspiration for fashion for decades in India. Raj Kapoor’s tailoring looks from the 1940s and 50s, Amitabh Bacchan from the ’70s or Shahrukh Khan’s uber-cool ’90s sportswear looks: All of them greatly impacted how the public dressed in these eras. And the case today is no different. While Indian menswear’s direction and designers’ approach might have evolved with time, fans of Bollywood still look up to their favourite actors when it comes to their hairstyles or sartorial choices. With the internet and online shopping offering easy access to almost any brand sitting in many corners of the world with a few taps and clicks, it has become extremely easy to get your hands on the same items the stars rock on the red carpet or Instagram — as long as you have a deep pocket.
While luxury watches and sunglasses remain the top expensive items that Bollywood celebrities spend big on, we have observed a rising interest amongst the people of showbiz in athleisure and designer sneakers in the last couple of years. However, they stick to well-tailored suits and traditional attires for formal occasions and weddings. From Dior’s Air Jordan collaboration sneakers to the torchbearer of dad sneakers, Balenciaga SSS, the men of Bollywood were some of the first to cop them in the country. To help you navigate items from your favourite actors’ wardrobe, we have put together a list of brands where Bollywood shops.
The brands Bollywood loves to shop from:
- Gucci
If you’ve been an observer of Ranveer Singh’s over the top style, it is impossible to ignore his love for Gucci. From the accessories to the bold clothing, Ranveer is often covered in Gucci from head to toe.

- Dior Men
From Kartik Aaryan to Rajkummar Rao, we have seen many actors dressed in Dior on their various outings and on magazine covers, but what really caught our eye was when Ranbir Kapoor rocked the Air Dior sneakers from one of the most successful fashion collaborations ever between Dior and Jordan.

- Louis Vuitton
From Karan Johar to Amitabh Bachchan, Louis Vuitton is the brand Bollywood trusts when it comes to luggage. Don’t believe us? Pay closer attention to those airport looks.

- Balenciaga
The Balenciaga mania reached the next level when the chunky sneakers trend took off. From Varun Dhawan to Badshah, we saw many of B-town celebrities wearing multiple colourways of the SSS sneakers and today the love for the brand continues in the form of streetwear as well.

- Prada
Prada is so famous in India, you might catch the brand being mentioned in multiple hit songs from the recent past. And the love for the fashion house translates into wearing some of the best looks from the brand, as seen on Diljit Dosanjh.

- Drew House
A recent addition to the wardrobes of some of the most stylish men around the world, the streetwear brand owned by Justin Bieber is a go-to for hoodies, jumpers and t-shirts for a lot of Bollywood’s stylish men, from Aditya Roy Kapoor to Karan Johar.

- Nike Air Jordan
Whether you are a sneakerhead or not, you do not need an introduction to the Air Jordans. The love for Air Jordans amongst the men of Bollywood is no secret. Harshvardhan Kapoor’s closet is living proof.

- Dhruv Kapoor
Dhruv Kapoor’s designs have always pushed the envelope with interesting silhouettes, bold prints and statement denim. And these clothes have been a hit amongst both men and women of Bollywood. We absolutely love this custom-printed bomber on Karan Johar.

- Huemn
One of the pioneers of streetwear in India, Delhi-based brand Huemn’s collections have always offered edge packed with brilliant detailing and striking silhouettes. The recent drop of t-shirts from the brand continues to be a huge hit on Instagram, finding fans in high places — Anurag Kashyap included.
