Best Dressed Stars at the 2021 Golden Globes

See the top looks of the evening, including Elle Fanning in Gucci, Regina King in Louis Vuitton, Amanda Seyfried in Oscar de la Renta and more

The 2021 Golden Globes are a hybrid presentation this evening with hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as well as presenters appearing in-person at venues in Los Angeles and New York (The Beverly Hilton and The Rainbow Room), while nominees are making remote appearances, with many creating their own virtual red-carpet moments.

Many stars are embracing an overt glamour reminiscent of pre-pandemic living as an antidote to a year of lockdowns and quarantines.

Here are the best-dressed stars of the night so far:

Elle Fanning

Fanning set the elegant tone early in the evening, posting her look to Instagram, a custom mint-green satin draped gown with embroidered crystal brooches, designed by Alessandro Michele for Gucci, paired with vintage diamond and platinum jewels by Fred Leighton, including rings and bracelets from circa-1915 and the 1920s.

Regina King

King, a best director nominee for One Night in Miami, chose Louis Vuitton, a custom gown that quickly became one of the night’s most talked-about looks: The asymmetrical draped column gown in black silk cady was hand-embroidered with more than 41,000 sequins and crystals to create a gradated effect and required 350 hours to complete. King accessorized the look with diamonds by Forevermark.

Amanda Seyfried

Working with stylist Elizabeth Stewart, the Mank nominee wore a custom gown by Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim for Oscar de la Renta, an apricot-hued crepe gown with a lush off-the-shoulder floral neckline. (Seyfried is virtually attending the ceremony from Savannah, Georgia, with her family). The dress is accessorized with diamonds by Forevermark, a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch and shoes by Stuart Weitzman.

Carey Mulligan

A nominee for Promising Young Woman, Mulligan wore a draped satin dress in soft pink by Prada.

Cynthia Erivo

For ultimate glamour, it might be difficult to top the ivory leather opera gloves Cynthia Erivo wore with her neon-green sleeveless Valentino haute couture gown, accessorized with diamond jewels by Maria Tash and Wempe Jewelers, both based in New York.

Lily Collins

A nominee for Netflix’s Emily in Paris, Collins wore a one-shoulder beaded gown with waist cutout by Saint Laurent, paired with high jewelry by Cartier.

Margot Robbie

A Golden Globes presenter who introduced nominated film Promising Young Woman, Robbie wore head-to-toe Chanel that included a black-and-white printed-crepe gown from Virginie Viard’s spring/summer 2021 collection (the actress is an ambassador for the French fashion house).

Kaley Cuoco

Cuoco, a double nominee as actress and producer of HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant, chose Oscar de la Renta, wearing a gray tulle strapless beaded ballgown from the house’s fall/winter 2020 collection. Stylist Brad Goreski discussed how they coordinated her look during E!’s pre-Golden Globes coverage. “My strategy was to try to get Kaley to try on as many dresses in the 15-minute window she provided me with,” he joked. “Kaley loves fashion, she loves dressing up, but she doesn’t like to fuss. We strategized which looks we were going to try on her, and she’s really decisive, so it was pretty easy and really fast. We are bringing a look tonight. She said, ‘I want to have fun with this, I want to have a good time, I want to get dressed up,’ so that’s what we’re doing.”

Gillian Anderson

One of the evening’s Golden Globes winner’s — for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in Netflix’s The Crown — Anderson wore a gold halter gown with a hand-pleated skirt and Chantilly lace inlays by Dior Haute Couture.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Golden Globes co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler kicked off the night by walking the red carpets in NYC and L.A. respectively. Fey paired a Versace tuxedo dress with gold and diamond jewelry by Pomellato, while Poehler started the night in a custom button-down, belted minidress embellished with black sequins by Moschino.

Says stylist Christina Ehrlich of Fey’s jewels. “I chose Pomellato for two [of the star’s Golden Globes] looks. One look is driven by sleek design and jewels that are like sculpture, harmonious and organic shapes; this is what the Fantina and Iconica collections stand for. And for the second look I chose pieces in brown diamonds for an unconventional look.”

Nicholas Hoult

A nominee for Hulu’s The Great, Hoult revealed his Golden Globes look on Sunday around five hours before the start of the telecast. His Instagram post shows the actor in a double-breasted velvet tuxedo trimmed in grosgrain, a black T-shirt and velvet evening slippers, all by Giorgio Armani, accessorized with a watch by Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Josh O’Connor

O’Connor, who picked up a Golden Globe for his work as Prince Charles on Netflix’s The Crown, adopted a new-romantic vibe styled by Harry Lambert, featuring a custom two-button black tuxedo jacket by Loewe, paired with a white wing-collar shirt and wide-leg trousers from creative director Jonathan Anderson’s fall/winter 2021 collection for the Madrid-based label. On his wrist, he wore a Bulgari Octo Finissimo watch in steel with black dial.

Angela Bassett

Bassett, one of the night’s award presenters, opted for a dramatic one-shoulder aubergine crepe gown embellished with feathers by Dolce & Gabbana, paired with jewels by Beverly Hills-based designer Dena Kemp and Brazilian jewelry designer Graziela Kaufman.

Shira Haas

Haas, nominated for her work on Netflix’s Unorthodox, wore head-to-toe Chanel, including a strapless Fantasy Tweed dress with a sheer silk skirt, from Virginie Viard’s spring/summer 2021 collection.

Leslie Odom Jr.

The double nominee for One Night in Miami and for the song “Speak Now” from the film wore head-to-toe Valentino.

Andra Day

Day, a Golden Globes winner for her performance in The United States vs. Billie Holiday, is among the actresses wearing Chanel, choosing a gray silk-tulle gown from the house’s spring/summer 2021 haute-couture collection, with embroidered handwork that totaled more than 1,000 hours, paired with diamonds by Chanel Fine Jewelry.

Sarah Paulson

Paulson, a nominee for Ratched, wore a custom off-the-shoulder belted gown by Prada, embellished with crystal floral embroidery and accessorized with Prada slingback pumps and diamond jewelry by Harry Winston.

Jane Levy

Oscar de la Renta designers worked with Levy, a first-time nominee for NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, to create a midnight-blue gown paired with Jimmy Choo shoes and lab-grown diamonds by Vrai.

Julia Garner

Garner, a Golden Globes nominee and past winner for Netflix’s Ozark, channeled a retro-glam vibe in a Prada dress featuring a deep-V neckline, paired with jewels by Verdura.

Rosamund Pike

Pike, a winner for her role in Netflix’s I Care a Lot, chose a voluminous red-tulle dress by London-based designer Molly Goddard.

Dan Levy

Schitt’s Creek nominee Levy wore yellow Valentino.

Sofia Carson

Carson co-hosted a Twitter pre-show livestream in a burgundy and pale pink gown from Giambattista Valli’s spring 2020 haute-couture collection, paired with Dena Kemp jewelry and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Kyra Sedgwick

A presenter along with her husband Kevin Bacon (who wore a tuxedo by Dior Men), Sedgwick wore an ivory silk draped top and pants by Canadian designer Marina Moscone, paired with diamond and gold jewelry by Chopard.

Tahar Rahim

Rahim, a first-time nominee for The Mauritanian, wore Louis Vuitton.
