New set photos show first glimpse of Adam Driver and Lady Gaga filming House of Gucci

The first set photos have emerged from Ridley Scott’s upcoming crime drama, The House of Gucci, which is currently filming in Italy.

Adam Driver is playing Italian fashion house boss Maurizio Gucci, while Lady Gaga plays his ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani. The movie, based on the book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, will focus on Gucci’s murder – Reggiani was tried and convicted of orchestrating his assassination in 1995.

The pics show Driver and Gaga standing on what looks like a balcony. Driver has donned glasses and a turtleneck, while Gaga is wearing an extremely fluffy hat. Although it doesn’t give away much about the plot of what they’re shooting, it seems we can expect extravagant costumes aplenty (as you’d expect from a Gucci biopic).

Alongside the unhappy couple, Jeremy Irons will play Rodolfo Gucci, Maurizio’s father (despite reports last this year that suggested Robert De Niro was in talks for the role), while Jared Leto and Al Pacino are also on board to star, playing Paolo Gucci and Aldo Gucci respectively.

Driver’s last movie was also a Scott joint – due to be released in October, The Last Duel is a historical thriller set in 14th-Century France. Driver stars alongside Jodie Comer, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck. Meanwhile, this is Gaga’s first role since her Oscar-nominated turn as Ally in A Star is Born .

Lady Gaga might just be a fan of her latest movie wardrobe, as she was spotted still rocking it while making her way back to her hotel.

The singer, 34, is currently in Italy filming for Ridley Scott’s upcoming film on the Gucci family murder.

It’s her latest film role following her award-winning performance in A Star Is Born and the untitled movie is set to retell the 1995 murder of the heir to the Gucci fashion house, Maurizio Gucci, who was shot in the head by a hitman.

Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani – Maurizio’s ex-wife who spent 29 years in prison for orchestrating his death and found herself being called the Dark Widow as a result.

Dressed in character, Gaga was seen arriving back to her hotel in Rome in a floor-length floaty leopard print dress, black stiletto heels and a diamond collar necklace.

Pretty chic, right? You can see why she decided to keep it on.

Gaga teamed her set costume with a leather studded mask and stylish shades and was seen throwing up the peace sign as she headed inside her hotel.

Produced by Scott, 83, the new movie seems to have set itself up for all the Oscar nominations before filming had even got underway, thanks to bagging a stellar cast.

It was revealed in December that Jeremy Irons will play Maurizio’s father Rodolfo Gucci, while Al Pacino, Jared Leto, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney were all attached to the project in August last year.

There were reports that Robert De Niro is set to star as well, but it seems this is yet to be confirmed.

Scott’s wife Giannina is set to produce alongside him and speaking of the movie – based on the book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden – she has said previously: ‘This project has long been a labour of love for both Ridley and me.

‘The story is so epic, the stakes so high and the characters so richly drawn that we were determined to get it to the big screen. To say we are thrilled to be teaming with Mike De Luca and his brilliant film group at MGM is an understatement.’

With awards season and the European runway collections in full swing, celebrities are currently spoiled for choice when it comes to fashion. If you missed great big gowns, statement suits, and risqué style, all three returned this week thanks to performers willing to go the extra mile. Naturally, Lady Gaga led the pack. In Rome to film Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, Gaga was spotted about town in a white Max Mara suit whose high-waisted wide-leg trousers called to mind Katherine Hepburn. When she’s in movie star mode, Gaga always delivers.

At the Goya Awards, the luminaries of Spanish cinema went daring. A nominee for her role in the musical-comedy, My Heart Goes Boom!, Verónica Echegui dazzled in look four of Julien Dossena’s spring/summer 2021 show for Paco Rabanne. An appealing alternative to the standard sequin dress, Echegui’s silver crop top and skirt combination was modern and glamorous.

Elsewhere in Spain, actress Milena Smit provided a haute couture throwback when she arrived at the Feroz Awards wearing a feathered gown from Jean Paul Gaultier’s fall/winter 2018 collection. While Smit’s outfit was too new to qualify as vintage, it offered welcome nostalgia. Since the designer announced his retirement back in 2020, his designs have become even more of a hot commodity, resurfacing at events and on social media. Embellishment heavy and unapologetically over the top, it exemplified Gaultier’s strengths and paired beautifully with Smit’s black face covering.

The prize for the most meaningful style moment goes to Raya and the Last Dragon star Kelly Marie Tran. As Disney’s first Southeast Asian princess, Tran sought to honor her Vietnamese heritage at the film’s virtual premiere. Tran sought out the talents of Vietnamese-American designer Thai Nguyen to create a twist on Vietnam’s national garment, the Áo dài. Created in Nguyen’s atelier in just 48 hours, the stunning black and gold piece was embroidered with a phoenix and lotus motif, which carried over into Tran’s gilded headdress. A great example of using fashion to send a deeper message, Nguyen’s creation gave Tran a red carpet return worthy of royalty.
